Dr. Salvatore Trazzera has rapidly established himself as the athletes and fitness conscious individual's physician.  His life long experience as a competitive athlete combined with his extensive medical training, knowledge and clinical experience provide an uncommon combination of skills which allow him to relate to his athletes in a way unique to few physicians. 

The ‘Center for Athletic Medicine & Physical Performance’ was conceived and designed to meet the unique healthcare needs of athletes whether elite or recreational.  The professionals in the program are experienced and skilled in providing primary care sports medicine and comprehensive cardiovascular assessment and care for a diverse athletic population including men and women of every age and level of athletic ability.  We possess a level of expertise in diagnosing and managing medical illnesses and injuries sustained while participating in exercise or athletic competition in individual or team sports.

Services include:
  • Pre-participation sports physical examination
  • Complete blood panel as needed
  • Care of sports-related and general medical needs of athletes and active individuals
  • Injury prevention,  diagnosis and management as well as referral to appropriate surgical or nonsurgical specialist as needed
  • Comprehensive cardiopulmonary assessment
  • Customized exercise prescription based upon the American College of Sports Medicine Guidelines (ACSM)
  • Calculation of Exercise Training Zones based on (VO2) Maximal Oxygen Consumption and Heart Rate Relationship
  • IMPACT@ Concussion Prevention and Management Program
  • Dr. Trazzera is a Credentialed IMPACT Consultant (CIC)      
  • Coordinating care with other members of the sports medicine team to include athletic trainers, physical therapists, personal physicians and other medical and surgical specialties.
  • Communication with athletic trainers, coaches, school administration as well as athletes and their families

IMPACT History and Community Involvement:

Dr. Trazzera is CEO of NYTEX Sports, LLC a sports management company based in New York and Texas and owner of the Texas Brahmas Professional Hockey Team in the Central Hockey League (AA Minor Professional League) as well as the Texas Jr. Brahmas, a Tier III Jr. A Hockey Team playing in the Western States Hockey League (WSHL).  A 'Certified ImPACT Consultant' (CIC) trained at the University of Pittsburgs prestigeous Concussion Management Program, he is a leader and expert in Traumatic Brain Injury (Concussion) management and works with local high schools and colleges to provide the IMPACT Concussion Prevention and Management Program to their athletes.  He is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology at Stony Brook University Medical Center and serves as Team Physician for the Stony Brook University Ice Hockey Team.  He has introduced a concussion education, prevention and management program utilizing state of the art clinical neurocognitive (ImPACT) and neurophysical assessment.  This program will help guide athletes to safer return to play minimizing recurrent and long term injury further decreasing post concussive cognitive impairment.
