Fall Prevention / Balance Training

Balance Training Fall Prevention Program

Several key physical, proprioceptive, neurologic and autonomic factors contribute to the risk of falls.
The goal of our Balance Training and Fall Prevention Program is to identify those at risk for falls due to musculoskeletal, neurologic or autonomic dysfunction and institute an appropriate individualized patient education and balance retraining program. Muscle training, gait retraining, vestibular adaptation exercises and customized balance retraining exercises can be instituted to significantly decrease the patients fall risk and its associated complications.

A secondary cause of balance disturbances is mild traumatic brain injury (TBI or concussion) seen increasingly in athletes participating in contact sports. Along with neurocognitive testing balance testing and retraining has recently been added to return to play protocols utilized in competitive athletes attempting to return to play after mild TBI.
